New Writing 12 teachers pages

The lessons are designed to help make this collection accessible and enjoyable to your students. They include tasks aimed at improving general reading skills, such as predicting, skimming, scanning and inferring meaning. In keeping with this, students will be encouraged to consider the structure and organisation of texts, and the register and tone adopted by the writer.

At the same time students will also be engaged in tasks that focus more on a literary appreciation of the texts, such as analysing the language and symbolism used, and considering the characterisation, and social and political context in which they are set. They will be encouraged to make comparisons with other literature, and at each stage to discuss their ideas, so forming their own critical opinion of these writers.

There are worksheets for students at the end of each set of lesson plans.

The New Writing 12 Teachers’ pages were written by Fiona Wallace.
